Erasmus+ Program is a new program replacing the Lifelong Learning and Youth Programs implemented by the European Union in the field of education and youth between 2007-2013. While primarily based on project activities, it also includes individual activities.
What is the aim of the program?
The aim of the program is to promote and develop cooperation between higher education institutions in European Union countries and candidate countries, highlighting the European dimension in higher education. To achieve this, the Erasmus+ program provides thousands of students and academic staff with the opportunity to spend part of their education and teaching activities abroad each year. In addition to this, it supports joint research projects, intensive programs, curriculum development activities, and provides funding for thematic networks across Europe. The creation of the Erasmus+ action aims to increase the quality of higher education in Europe, develop the ability to approach different cultures and lifestyles with tolerance, and to produce graduates who meet the qualifications of the employment market in the globalization process to ensure the Union’s place among the world’s most competitive economies.
Who can benefit from the program and how?
Higher education institutions in the 28 EU member states, as well as countries that are members of the European Economic Area but not members of the EU such as Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway, and candidate countries such as Turkey and Macedonia, can benefit from the Erasmus+ program.
Universities, institutes, academies, and similar institutions recognized as higher education institutions by the relevant official institutions of the countries, upon being granted the Erasmus+ University Charter – EUC by applying to the Directorate-General for Education and Culture of the European Commission, can benefit from all activities under the Erasmus+ and Lifelong Learning programs by their students, academic, and administrative staff.
What qualifications do I need to be selected as an exchange student?
- Students can study abroad within the program for a minimum of 3 months and a maximum of 12 months. The duration of internship mobility is a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 12 months. A student can benefit from more than one funded or unfunded mobility for a total of up to 12 months for each education level (undergraduate, graduate, doctoral). The activity period cannot exceed 12 months, even if it is unfunded.
- First-year undergraduate students cannot benefit from the exchange.
- Students in preparatory classes cannot apply.
- Associate degree, undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students can benefit from the exchange.
- The minimum academic achievement average for Associate/Bachelor students should be at least 2.20/4.00 or 58/100.
- The minimum academic achievement average for Master’s and doctoral students should be at least 2.50/4.00 or 65/100.
- In evaluations; a ranking is made based on 50% Academic Achievement and 50% Foreign Language Proficiency averages for education and internship mobility.
