Minor Program

The minor program is an educational program that allows a student who successfully conducts undergraduate education to receive limited education in another undergraduate program of interest.

In Which Departments Can a Minor Be Obtained?

The Department of Statistics at Dokuz Eylül University Faculty of Science offers a minor program in the Departments of Statistics, Computer Science, and Mathematics.

Who Can Apply for a Minor Program in the Department of Statistics?

  • Students from departments that admit students from the same score type as the Department of Statistics can apply for the minor program.
  • Students applying for a minor program must have an English exemption certificate.

What are the Application and Admission Requirements?

  • The relevant department announces the minor program by specifying the quotas at the beginning of each semester.
  • Students can apply for the announced minor program at the beginning of the 3rd semester at the earliest and at the beginning of the 6th semester at the latest.
  • Applications for the minor program are made to the Faculty Dean’s Office on the date determined by the Faculty Dean’s Office with the application form, transcript, and foreign language exemption certificate.
  • For the student to apply for the minor program, the general grade average must be at least 2 out of 4 or at least 70 out of 100 at the time of application, they must have successfully completed all the credit courses in the undergraduate program until the semester they applied for, and their application must be approved by the relevant department. The acceptance process is completed with the decision of the Faculty Board of the faculty to which the applied department is affiliated.

Important Information about the Minor Program

  • Due to the minor program, the success and graduation of the student in the major undergraduate program are not affected in any way. Separate report cards and transcripts are issued for the minor program. Courses counted for both programs are shown on both transcripts. If a student wishes to withdraw from a course counted for both programs, the withdrawal process applies to both programs.
  • The courses to be counted for both programs are determined between the departments, and those taken previously are finalized by the decision of the Faculty Board of the Faculty within the period of acceptance to the program, and those taken later are finalized by the decision of the Faculty Board of the Faculty within the semester they are taken. The courses counted for both programs are included in the semester registration of the student in both programs and shown on both transcripts.
  • To assist in determining the courses in the minor program and planning the periods in which they will be taken, a Minor Program Coordinator is appointed by the relevant Department Chairperson. The Minor Program Coordinator works in communication with the student advisors of the major undergraduate programs.
  • A student can register for a maximum of one minor program during their undergraduate education.
  • A student can voluntarily leave the minor program. A student who removes their registration from the minor program cannot re-register for the same minor program.
  • A student who is considered on leave in the major program is automatically considered on leave in the minor program as well. Students who cannot take courses due to reasons such as courses not being offered or course conflicts in the minor program can be granted a semester leave with the approval of the Faculty/School Board to which the department offering the minor program is affiliated.
  • In the minor program, the registration of a student who does not take courses for two consecutive semesters without permission is removed.

Success and Minor Certificate

  • The minor program consists of at least 18 credits in credit systems or an equivalent number of courses in non-credit systems.
  • A student who achieves the right to graduate from the major program and completes the minor program with a minimum average of 2.00 is awarded a minor certificate.
  • Students who achieve the right to graduate from the major program but have not yet completed the minor program are given a maximum of two additional semesters by the decision of the Faculty/School Board. These students are given diplomas belonging to this department at the end of the semester they graduate from the major program. During the additional period, they continue to pay the student contribution fee of the department they pursued the major program in, taking into account the total number of semesters spent in the undergraduate program. If they enroll in a graduate program, they also pay the graduate student contribution fee separately. The Faculty is authorized to make decisions regarding these students.
  • A student who completes the minor program cannot benefit from the rights and authorities granted with the undergraduate and associate degree diplomas in the minor field.
  • If a student withdraws from a double major program but has fulfilled all the requirements of a minor program, they are entitled to receive a minor certificate.
  • The registration of a student in the minor program is removed if their general grade average falls below 1.00 (below 60 out of 100). Courses that the student has successfully completed but are not counted for the major program are included in the transcript and diploma appendix without being included in the general grade average.
  • When a student leaves the minor program, they are not required to repeat the courses they failed in the minor program.
